School Admission Procedure
How do we register a place at Wavell?
We are happy to talk with families of possible new entrants on an informal basis, to send information and to show people around our school. However, formal admission to the school can only be granted by the LA. Further information on admissions and access to an electronic application form can be found in the Admissions section of the North Yorkshire County Council website
What happens when Infants transfer to Juniors?
Year two children, in their last term at Wavell Infant School, make several visits to the Junior School to get to know their new teacher. The Infant and Junior teachers also get together to discuss the children.
Parents are invited into the school for a meeting with your child’s new teacher and Headteacher. This is an opportunity to hear what life is like as a ‘junior’ child. This is also an opportunity to talk about the schools’ expectations.
What Happens In The First Few Days?
Children who arrive individually are given a ‘buddy’ for the first few days who will help them to settle into their new class. They will be shown where to hang their coats, what to do at lunchtimes and generally help in the process of settling down.
Home School Agreement
You will be given a copy of the Wavell Junior School Home-School Agreement for you and your family to read. Whilst this is not a contract in the legal sense of the word, it is a commitment to a partnership which will give your son/daughter the best chance of succeeding in this new school. We do hope that you feel able to sign and return it to the school.
